Al Yuen heads up a VCSEL Design R&D Team at Lumentum.  He has been with Lumentum since 2010.  Al started his career at Hewlett Packard and went on to found Alvesta, and Zilowatt, work at Emcore, Coherent, and JDSU in various roles from engineer to General Manager.  Al was coinventor of the active optical cable (AOC), quad-based transceiver (precursor to QSFP), and the vertical oxidation method for VCSEL fabrication, which made possible the data centers and high performance computing of today.  He received his BS EECS degree from UC Berkeley and his PhD ECE degree from UC Santa Barbara.

 

Lumentum Inc. is a provider of optical and photonic products for a range of end market applications, including 3D sensing (3DS), data communications (Datacom) and telecommunications (Telecom) networking and commercial lasers (commercial lasers) for manufacturing, inspection and life-science applications. The Company operates in two segments: Optical Communications (OpComms) and Commercial Lasers (Lasers). The Company’s customers include original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and module integrators (MIs).
